Mike Forest Looks for the Podium This Weekend in Virginia

Apr 21, 2009

Edmonton, Alberta native Mike Forest hopes to continue running strong in the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series building off of the success at the Rolex 24 hour race at Daytona International Speedway.

The 2009 season started back at the end of January, but the season is just getting started now with the remaining 11 races taking place through the summer starting this weekend at Virginia International Speedway.

Forest will compete in the GT class running the #32 Pontiac GXP-R, with sponsorship from Dynacor Media, Miracle Sealants & Earth Water. The Saturday race will be a 2 hour & 45 minute event which will test all 34 cars, 18 GT cars & 16 cars in the faster Prototype class, all racing at the same time. It is the ultimate endurance race pitting the Pontiacs against Porsches, Mazda's & Corvette's in the GT class.

"I'm really looking forward to returning to VIR. This will be the first track I will race on for the 2nd time in this car which should be a big help, since I will only get about 90 minutes of on-track time to work on the set-up of the car & qualify before the race. It helps your confidence to know exactly how to approach the track right from the start of the weekend," Forest remarks. Last year Forest & company posted a 10th place finish while nursing a gearbox with only the 4th & 5th gears working during the final 90 minutes.

Returning as a long time sponsor with Forest is Edmonton's premiere video & multimedia production house, Dynacor Media. Dynacor Media recently received the highest honor at the international 'Telly Awards' for their work with Mike Forest's sponsorship video, 'A Winning Profile', in addition to earning 3 other awards this year. The Edmonton firms’ entries were among 13,000 entries from around the world, including submissions from industry giants such as Disney, Harpo Studios, TSN, Time Life and Warner Bros. "Racing has such a big marketing element to it and having Dynacor Media aboard has helped my program immensely. They have provided me with first class tools for personal marketing & sponsor promotions that have proven their worth time and time again," says Forest.

Returning to the PR1 team this year will be Lawson Aschenbach who, like Forest, raced with PR1 in the Formula Ford F2000 series early in his career. He brings years of Grand Am experience, having driven a Pontiac for other teams in the past.

Speed channel will provide live coverage on Saturday April 25th at 12:30 MST. The 3rd race of the year will take place the following weekend on Sunday May 3rd at Thunderbolt Raceway in Millville, New Jersey.
