Podium for Forest, Dalziel & Starworks in their Second Race

Apr 15, 2010
When the chequered flag fell at the Porsche 250 in Birmingham, Alabama the #8 Corsa Car Care/Dynacor Media Riley-BMW achieved a third place finish. Along the way they also achieved the most improved positions, moving up nine spots from their 12th place starting position.

The team used a unique strategy in qualifying which would hamper their qualifying result in an effort in improve their strategy in the race.

Forest's start set the tone for the day. He grabbed two spots in the first two corners and another two spots by the end of the first lap. Soon after, Forest advanced the car up to 7th position and maintained the spot until the first full course yellow, twenty minutes into the race. After the first pit sequence, Forest found himself leading the field as the race went green.

"The team made a great call in the pits which placed us in the lead. I made it a challenge to myself that I was going to hold the lead to prove I could be up there. Meeting that challenge was probably my best moment of the race!" Forest remarked.

Forest ran first overall for six laps until another full course yellow came out which permitted the team to complete their driver change under yellow flag conditions. Ryan Dalziel took over and resumed in 7th position. Over the next hour he was able to move the #8 Daytona Prototype up four more positions into 3rd place.

Shortly after the final pit stop while running in 3rd place the team narrowly escaped from an on-track incident which knocked the suspension out of alignment. The suspense was thick for the final hour while the team waited to find out if the tires would hold up.

"As far as incident with the #10 car goes; they have their version of events, we have ours. I think the TV footage speaks for itself" Ryan said.

Dalziel was locked into a tight battle with the #77 car for twenty minutes during the closing stages of the race. He successfully managed to hold the position & pull out a few seconds gap by the end of the race to finish in third place.

"I am extremely proud of the job everyone on the team did this weekend. We felt we had a podium caliber car at Homestead so it's great to be able to prove that this outing. With this podium Ryan maintained 3rd overall in the championship. With another solid result at VIR, where we have traditionally been strong, we could move Mike up to 4th in points as he is only six points out of 4th right now" an ecstatic Peter Baron said of his team.

The race was won by the #01 car by Telmex Chip Ganassi with drivers Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas. Second place went to the #60 Crown Royal/Michael Shank Racing with drivers Oz Negri and John Pew.

The Starworks Motorsport team will remain in Alabama to do tire testing on Monday as the series prepares to switch to Continental tires in 2011. This marks the beginning of a 10 day window for the team to prepare their two cars for the next event. The Bosch Engineering 250 at Virginia International Raceway will take place April 24 in Alton, Virginia.
